Built in public, one piece at a time

Every look, clip and game we make lands here first, with the date and how real it is.

  1. An Evening in Heartstead

Walk Hana out of the dorms at golden hour and light Heartstead's lanterns as dusk falls. Birds scatter, the smith hammers, windows glow.

  2. The Heartstone Colossus

A colossal stone guardian rises out of its pit. Dodge its slams, strike the crystal on a stuck hand and break its heart.

  3. The Living Meadow

Play Hana in our storybook meadow: your skills scorch, bend, ripple and crack the world, and then it heals while you watch.

  4. Slime Rush

Play as Hana: mow five waves of jelly slimes, unlock Whirl, dash out of trouble and drop Skyfall Strike on the crowned Slime Guardian.

  5. Calm sound for the meadow

Wind, water, birds and soft taps, made by code with no recordings. Turn the sound on and listen.

  6. The Energy Loop

Answer a sample question for +2 Energy, swing at the copper rock, pop the grove slimes. The game's real rule, in our new look.

  1. Mirror Bridge

Cross a glass bridge in the sky. Step on the pane with the right answer. A wrong one cracks, and Leo's cloud catches you.

  2. The Monster Book

Ten code-drawn monsters. Tap one to watch its real first attack, then flip its card to learn how to dodge it.

  3. The Slime Guardian

Tap the boss of the Mines until it bursts into a shower of loot. Crunchy hits, critical hits, one big pop.

  4. A village, drawn in code

Cottages, a lamp post, a well, barrels and a garden in the storybook style, by day and at dusk.

  1. The game is called MindQuest

The name on the game's screens is now MindQuest: one name for every student, from high school to medical school.

  2. The storybook world

A watercolour painting turned into pixel grain by code, with pixel heroes, slimes and spells on top. Ari's pick for our new world.

  3. A face and a name

Leo on gold became our picture, next to the MindQuest wordmark. The credit line reads By Ari Horesh.

  4. Meet Leo: the first sketch

The first sprite of Leo, your guide: idle, blink and walk, facing every way. Ari's verdict: cute, but the eyes were huge.

  5. Our own pixel UI kit

Buttons, windows, bars and icons, all drawn in code as pixel art. The game's optional pixel style and this website wear the same kit.
