Plain answers
For parents and teachers
Plain answers about who MindQuest is for, what we keep, and how to delete it.
- No account needed, nothing sent to us.
What is MindQuest?
A study game in development: a cozy pixel RPG where right answers to study questions power mining, fights and boss battles. It is made by Ari Horesh and is 100% free to play. The full game opens in the Alpha, and there is no date yet.
Who is it for?
Students, from high school to university and beyond. The demos on /try are for everyone: no account, no age limit, and nothing about how they play is sent to us.
Accounts start at 13. Younger teens need a parent's or guardian's OK by email first (see the ages below).
What does an account keep?
We keep
- An email address
- A hero name and the hero's look (with the colours they pick)
- Country
- Birth month and year (never the day)
- What they study, only if they choose to say
- The demo or link that brought them, and a dated record of their choices (like accepting the Terms)
- For younger teens: your email and when you confirmed
We never ask for
- Real name, photo, phone or address
- The name of their school
- Gender or anything about their health
- Contacts or friends' emails
- Your name
Questions
Questions parents ask
Something else?
Write to hello@mindquest.org. A real person (Ari) answers. The full details are in our privacy policy.
Is it really free?
Yes. MindQuest is 100% free to play. We don't sell your data. Today we don't use it for advertising (except the builder kit news, which people 16 and over can ask for), and the site has no trackers. Ads or sponsors may come in the future; if they do, we update the privacy policy first.
Can other people contact my child?
No. The website has no chat, no messages and no public profiles. Hero names are not shown publicly before the game opens, and rude names and look-alike tricks are blocked.
Which emails do you send?
- A 6-digit code to sign in
- One welcome email
- One email when the game opens, and updates about the game (that is what the account is for; each has a one-click stop)
- For younger teens: one email to a parent or guardian, asking them to confirm
- One last email when the account is deleted
- Only if they ask for it (16 and over): news about the MindQuest builder kit, the tools and code we make the game with
- Later, once the game opens: reminders to claim the hero name, and a yearly "Still interested?" email
Every email except a code and the one-time goodbye email has a one-click stop link, and stopping never deletes the account. We never send anyone else's newsletters or offers.
How do I delete an account?
Sign in at /account with the account's email, then choose Delete my account. We send a fresh code to confirm, and then it is gone. You can also write to hello@mindquest.org and we will help.
Can I use it with a class?
Yes. Every demo link works without signing up, so you can share it with a class or put it on a screen. The questions in today's demos are samples, marked "Sample question".
Ages
At what age can my child join on their own?
It depends on the country, because each country sets its own age for agreeing to online services. Below that age, from 13 up, a parent or guardian confirms the account by email:
| Age to join on your own | Where you live |
|---|---|
| 13 and over | Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States |
| 14 and over | Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Italy, Lithuania, and Spain |
| 15 and over | Czechia, France, Greece, and Slovenia |
| 16 and over | Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and every country not listed here |
| 18 and over | Brazil and India |
Under 13: no account anywhere. From 13 until the age in this table, a parent or guardian confirms by email first.
How a parent confirms
My teen asked me to confirm their account
Your teen fills in the sign-up page and types your email address.
You get one email from MindQuest (hello@mail.mindquest.org). It says what MindQuest is and exactly what the account keeps, with a Confirm button and a Decline link.
Nothing starts until you confirm: the account and the hero name stay on hold.
If you decline, or don't answer within 7 days, we delete the sign-up, including your email address. After a no, we keep only a scrambled code of both addresses for 30 days, so the same request can't reach you again.
We keep only your email address and when you confirmed, and we use it only for this account. We never ask for your name. Changed your mind later? Write to hello@mindquest.org from the same address and we delete the account.
The account gets our emails about MindQuest: one when the game opens, and updates about the game. Your yes covers the account and these emails. They are only about MindQuest itself, and each one has a one-click stop. You can stop them for your teen with one click too: the link is in our email to you and on the page after you answer. Your teen can switch them back on in their account page; if you don't want that, write to hello@mindquest.org and we delete the account.
