The short version

The main points. The full terms below are what counts.

  • MindQuest is 100% free to play, and the demos need no account.
  • You must be 13 or older to make an account. Younger than the age for your country? A parent or guardian confirms first.
  • You sign in with a code we email you, so keep your email account safe.
  • Your hero's look is drawn with the game's own art and carries into the game.
  • Pick a kind hero name that isn't a real name. We can refuse names that break the rules, and we tell you why.
  • The waitlist holds your name and emails you about MindQuest (when it opens, and updates). That is what the account is for, and every one of those emails has a one-click stop. It doesn't promise a date for the Alpha.
  • Demos are small previews, and sample questions are not study material.
  • Play fair: no bots, no attacks, no harassment.
  • You can delete your account at any time, and we email you before a change to these terms that matters.
  • Italian law applies, and you keep the consumer rights of the country you live in.

What MindQuest is, and these terms

MindQuest is a study game in development, made by Ari Horesh: a cozy pixel RPG where right answers power the adventure. The service is run by Ari Horesh (individual entrepreneur), Via Francesco Orsi 27, 27100 Pavia (PV), Italy, VAT number IT02865360180 ("we" or "us").

Today, mindquest.org has small demos anyone can play, a build log, and waitlist accounts. An account holds your hero name and look for the game, and gets our emails about MindQuest: one when the game opens, and updates about the game. Those emails are what the account is for, so the box for them is required when you sign up. These terms are the agreement between you and us for all of that. Our privacy policy explains what we do with your data.

You accept these terms when you tick "I accept the Terms" and make an account. If you only play the demos, the parts about the demos, fair play and our work apply to you. If you don't agree, please don't make an account.

Who can make an account

  • You must be 13 or older. The demos are open to everyone.
  • If you are younger than the age for your country in the privacy policy's table, a parent or guardian must confirm your account by email before it starts. By confirming, they agree that you can have an account. Please read these terms together.
  • If you are under 18, you also agree that we keep your account data (the extra box on /join).
  • One account per person, for yourself. Don't make an account for someone else, and give your real country and birth month, and a real parent's or guardian's email when one is asked for.

Your account

  • You sign in with a 6-digit code sent to your email. Keep your email account safe: whoever can read it can sign in.
  • If you think someone else got into your account, write to us straight away and we will help.
  • You can change your hero name, look, study profile and email settings, download your data, or delete your account at any time on your account page.

Your hero

  • The hero you design on /join is drawn with the game's own character art, so it is how you will look in the game. Your choices are saved with your account.
  • While the game is in development, a choice may change or be retired. If that happens, we keep your hero as close as we can, and you can pick again.
  • When you are signed in, the demos on /try can show your hero. That only shows your look; nothing about your play is sent to us.
  • You can share screenshots and recordings of your hero (see Our work).

Hero names

  • Pick a name that is yours to use: not a real name (yours or anyone else's), nothing rude or hateful, no pretending to be someone else, and no brand names.
  • We check names when you pick them and may hold one for review. We can refuse or remove a name that breaks these rules and ask you to pick a new one.
  • If we refuse or remove a name, or limit an account, we tell you why and how to ask us to look again.
  • You can change your name once every 7 days, and up to 5 times before the Alpha.
  • When the Alpha opens for you, you claim your name in the game. An unclaimed name stays held for 90 days after your invite, and at least 90 days after the game opens to everyone, with two reminders. After that, someone else may take it.
  • Your hero name is not shown publicly on the website.

The waitlist and the Alpha

  • Joining the waitlist is not a promise of access or of any date. We open the Alpha in waves, and early waves may be for adults only.
  • Your account gets our emails about MindQuest: when the Alpha opens for you, and updates about the game. They are only about MindQuest itself, never advertising for anyone else. Every one has a one-click stop, and your account page has a switch for each kind; stopping them never deletes or locks your account.
  • We may pause new sign-ups for a while, for example to stop an attack, and open them again.

Demos and sample questions

  • Demos are small previews of the game. They are provided as they are: they may change, break or disappear, and nothing you do in them is sent to us.
  • Questions marked "Sample question" are written for these previews. Don't rely on them as study material.
  • MindQuest helps you study. It is not professional or medical advice.

100% free to play

MindQuest is 100% free to play. Free forever.

To keep it free, the site or the game may show ads or sponsored content in the future. If that happens, we update these terms and the privacy policy first.

Play fair

Please don't:

  • try to break, overload or get around the site's protections or the bot check, or use bots or scripts to make accounts, hold names or play;
  • scrape the site, or copy its code or art to make your own version of MindQuest;
  • use MindQuest to harass, threaten, bully or hurt anyone, or to break the law;
  • pretend to be someone else, or sign up with an email address that isn't yours;
  • give an email that isn't really your parent's or guardian's, or a false country or birth month;
  • try to get into anyone else's account.

Found a security problem?

Please tell us at hello@mindquest.org, and give us time to fix it before you tell anyone else. Test only with your own account, never look at or change other people's data, and don't slow the site down. Thank you for every honest report.

Our work, and what you can share

The game, the website, their code and art, Leo, the monsters and the Pipette font belong to us. All rights reserved.

Some art is licensed to us by the people who made it, like the character art your hero is drawn with. It belongs to them, and it may not be copied or taken out of the site. Fonts, art and tools made by others are listed on Credits.

You are welcome to share links, screenshots and short recordings of the demos and of your hero, as long as you don't suggest that we endorse you.

If you send us ideas or feedback, you let us use them to make MindQuest better, without owing you anything for them. Thank you!

Ending an account

  • You can delete your account at any time, and it takes effect straight away (the privacy policy explains what stays in backups for a few days). This also covers the right to cancel that EU consumers have within 14 days.
  • We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms. When we can, we tell you by email first, with the reason.
  • If MindQuest ever closes, we tell you by email and delete the accounts.

Our responsibility

We work hard to keep MindQuest running, safe and correct. But it is a free game in development, so the site and the demos come as they are, and we can't promise they will always work or be free of mistakes.

We are responsible for harm we cause on purpose or through serious carelessness, and for anything else the law doesn't let us exclude. Beyond that, as far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, like lost time.

Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update the version and date at the top. If a change matters for your account, we email you before it applies, and you can delete your account if you don't agree.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by Italian law. If you live in the EU, you also keep the protection of the consumer laws of your own country, and you can bring a claim in your own courts.

Before anything else, please write to us: most problems are solved quickly by email.

The small print

  • If one part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • If we don't act on a broken rule straight away, we can still act on it later.
  • Your account is yours only; you can't pass it to someone else. If someone else ever runs MindQuest after us, these terms move with it, and we tell you first.
  • These terms are written in English. If we publish a translation and the two differ, the English text applies, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
